Unit 307/UA 2.3 Pruning and Climbing in Proximity of Overhead Lines Course

(previously CS40/2.3)

 

Two courses and assessments in one package! Learn more about pruning trees to maintain good form and health, whilst also acquiring the tree climbing techniques essential for aerial working around live overhead lines. Learn which tools to use, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each in relation to situation and proximity to the electrical network. This excellent aerial pruning course also looks in more detail at the biology and anatomy of trees, and why, when and where to prune.

 

Pre-requisite units: 201, 202, 203, 206, 306, 308, UA 1, UA 2.1, UA 2.2

 

  • Arboricultural pruning operations and climbing operations in proximity of overhead live lines
  • Understand the current legislation and industry good practice
  • Understand potential environmental damage that could occur and how to respond appropriately
  • Perform a hazard evaluation of the tree and working at height assessment
  • Understand how tree species, their condition and the time of year affect the work
  • Be able to define pruning prescriptive terms and measurements
  • Principles of target pruning and the effect on tree pruning operations
  • Understand the importance of accurate and appropriate cuts when removing branch material
  • Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of a range of pruning tools
  • Perform various pruning techniques
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety distances when working in proximity to live electrical apparatus
  • Understand electrical categorisation of trees and safe working techniques for each category

 

NPTC Pruning and Climbing Near Overhead Live Lines Assessment

Unit 307/UA 2.3 (previously CS40/2.3) assessment takes place within the 3-day course.

 

Assessment only: We do provide assessment only options for experienced arborists with the required pre-requisite units. A one-day refresher course is also available for this unit.
