Units 203 Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue Course

(previously CS38 & 206/306)

This is a physically demanding, but hugely enjoyable course that will introduce you to a wide range of climbing equipment and techniques. You will learn how to access a tree using rope and harness, and aerial tree rescue operations, giving you a greater understanding of how to work off the ground safely.

• Access a tree using rope and harness and aerial tree rescue operations
• Understand legislation in relation to tree climbing
• Identify a range of P.P.E appropriate to work positioning systems
• Tie, dress and set a range of tree climbing knots
• Identify hazards and manage the associated risks
• Carry out visual tree inspection
• Carry out a pre-use inspection of tree climbing equipment
• Choose appropriate anchor points
• Use techniques for safe and efficient ascent and descent
• Understand the duties of a competent grounds person
• Establish safe and comfortable work positions
• Use climbing irons (spikes) safely and efficiently
• Carry out a variety of aerial rescue techniques
• Store climbing equipment appropriately

NPTC Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue Assessment

Assessments for NPTC units 206 & 306 (previously CS38) can be carried out straight after the 5-day course has been completed, or at a later date.

Assessment only: We provide assessment only options for those with prior experience. There is no requirement to have completed a Red Stag Training course beforehand, however we would advise that interested parties consider a one-day refresher course.
